Mastery Research Paper: Storytelling in Instructional Video
The goal of this assignment was to research and write about the power of storytelling in instructional video and its ability to engage and motivate learners. The target audience was the instructor for the class. The purpose was to inform the instructor of my knowledge of storytelling in instructional videos.
Mastery Research Paper: Storytelling in Instructional Video
Create an Instructional Video, Part 1
The goal of this assignment was to create and work with storyboards for instructional video projects as a means of planning and communicating the compositions of shots, as well as the concepts, content, and the sequencing of information to others prior to beginning the actual video production process. The target audience for this assignment was high school students. The purpose was to create a storyboard to plan an instructional video.

Creating a Story
The goal of this assignment was to work with video and narration to create a story that supported an instructional module on the topic of conflict resolution. The target audience for this assignment was the instructor and my peers. The purpose of this assignment was the practice putting video clips together with narration to create an engaging story for learners.
Creating a Story Video
Create an Instructional Video, Part 2
During this stage the goal was to learn about and practice the process of creating a rough-cut video that would be used in the final production during Week 4 of the course. The target audience for this assignment was high school students. The purpose of this assignment was putting together a rough cut for the instructional video.
Intermediate Cut of Instructional Video
Create an Instructional Video, Part 3
The goal was to take all of the concepts learned in the course to create a high-quality instructional video. The target audience for this assignment was high school students. The purpose of the assignment was putting together the final copy of the instructional video.

Discussion: Compression
The goal of this assignment was to learn about the important issue of video compression and the impact it has on video quality and file size when producing instructional videos for online distribution and viewing. The target audience was peers. The purpose of the assignment was to have a better understanding of compression.
Initial Post:

In creating instructional videos for online delivery, is the technical quality of the video more important than the file size, or is file size more important than the technical quality of the video?
Technical quality and the file size must work together in order to find the most optimal way to compress a video. There must be a happy medium between the two factors in order for a video to be of high quality. A video can have a very large file size, but it could be missing important technical qualities. On the other hand, a video could be very technical, but due to the smaller file size, it can be too compressed and distorted.
This same idea can be applied to choosing a bit rate in a video. The video designer has to find the perfect balance between both high and low bit rates to keep a video from becoming distorted. If the bit rate is too high, it will create a larger file size. If the bit rate is too low, it will create a distorted video.

What factors must you consider when compressing a video in order to produce the best possible output?
It is important to not over-compress your video. If you lose too much data by compressing the file size down, the video could become pixelated and hard to see. Using a lower video resolution can help if there are file size issues. It is never a good idea to sacrifice file size in order to use less storage space.
Too much compression can cause a loss of frame rate. This can cause the video to lose its resolution and speed. Another factor that can happen with the loss of frame rate is the loss of bitrate in a video. It is also important to know what equipment is being used to record a video. If recording from a mobile device, the video is already compressed and doesn’t need any more compression in order to create a high-resolution video.
